Care to die? Have a Pesti (Pepsi) Cola!
I always beleive walking is good for health. However, walking outside in peek summer times (min. 40c) are too hard to bare for perdestraints in India. I almost died out of Heat stroke in the summer of 1994. There are quite a huge number of people who have to move around (work) during day time. With the Sun blazing from top, nothing is worse than dying parched. Any fluids especially a carbonated flavored drink are more refreshing and thirst quenching. May be one should consider Sugar-Cane juice, Coconut water or fruit juice rather than Pepsi / Coke cola. Here is why?
For the past couple of months, I have been hearing news about the Pepsi / Coke being fined in India for having pesticides in their soft drinks. Also, Kerala & Karnataka States has banned sale of Pepsi or Coke [1] while other States, like Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, have banned their sale in or around Hospitals, Schools & Colleges.
Though the officials, claim "Our products manufactured in India are absolutely safe ..." and "The Coke you drink in India would be as clean as the Coke you get in Paris," [2], Center for Science and the Environment (CSE) confirmed that 11 products of Coca-cola company, does NOT meet norms set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
It's NOT just the presence of pesticides in their soft-drinks, but also shipping a coke 300 ml coke bottle with condom in it [3] shows how cautions the coke company is while manufacturing them. Only God know, how many others siemen are floating in soft-drinks. Another incident to prove such carelessness is a man found dead insects in an unopened Sprite.[5]
Apart from all these, I also learnt that Pepsi in Kerala's is limited by court to draw no more than 500,000 liters of water daily for their production. The court should have capped the limit to 1/10 th of this mind blowing figure. Many people all around the country have limited access to the water, may be once in 2 weeks and these corporate a$$wholes working with local ministers are let to draw 500,000 liters of water per day for free to make flavored crapply drink with all dreadful pesticides, insects & seimens mixed in it to sell a 300ml bottle soft drink for Rs 15. People have to realize that Coke is not only sucking up 500,000 liters of water but also throwing tons of waste a day to make 37.5 million Rs worth of product.
I sincerely appreciate the work by Kerala government to shutdown sale of coca-cola products keeping view of public's health. Despite all these, senior officials at both Coca-Cola and PepsiCo insist they are being unfairly targeted, shamelessly and indirectly agrees to the fact that they do have pesticides in their products - 'pesticide levels in Indian tea and milk are far higher than those in their products.' [2]
One of my good old memories consists of as 6 year old kid, drinking Thumps up & Gold Spot by the shore of Vizag beach along with my brothers. These drinks used to taste real good, but once coke got into to India and bought over them, taste of soda's could NOT get any crappier. Simply, it ayn't no worth it.
Cannot stand my comments on Coke or want to propagate your stance against such lame production? Post your comments here.
