ICICI Bank sucks!

You got everything to loose, if you use any of the service offered by ICICI bank. ICICI bank claim’s themselves as second largest bank in India and people knows it. But most of you don’t know that they are second to none in cheating the customers who use their services

What you have to do when the bank that initiated the money transfer cheats? Well the only way as I see is to let your lawyer handle the situation and propagate to everyone that ICICI bank does suck. The latter part is what I would be doing right now. By doing so, at least we could save people like me being cheated by their services.

Simply to brief up, I have initiated the money transfer from NJ, USA. ICICI claims that money transfer is completed from their end. Had the transaction had completed as they claim; my parents should have been able to use that amount in right time. But this didn’t happen. ICICI bank says their part is done, check with my bank account. It has been more than 30 days from the day I initiated the transfer but no results yet. This kind of cheating with the customers is possible with one and only one bank, none other than ICICI bank. So guys this is what has happened with ICICI Bank (that sucks) and me word-to-word in detail.

I used to mail personal checks for my parents in India, on day I am came to know that there is wonderful money transfer service offered by ICICI Bank, who proclaims themselves as India’s Second-Largest Bank. The key features of this service are

  • FREE Money transfers into an ICICI Bank account
  • FREE Demand Drafts above $ 1000 or equivalent issued over 1250 locations
  • BEST exchange rates
  • Online tracking of the status of the funds
  • Direct Credit Facility to non – ICICI Bank accounts

Oh yeah! Looks like great package huh? That’s what I thought too! and contacted ICICI bank for details. The Customer Service Representative (CS Rep) said that I need to register online, and after some verification I can make the money transfer and it’s as simple as that. Even more the great feature offered was, I can initiate transactions through online without lifting my pen. I thought wow… hereafter I need not write checks or go to SBI, NY to make the wired transfer.

On one fine day, April 22 2004, I have initiated a money transfer of my dad’s bank account. After waiting for couple of days, April 28 2004, I got mail from The Money2India Team, stating, “Money sent to Beneficiary bank”. Thought “Cool! Money reached home.” I made my mind to go with their service forever but withheld that thought when I came to know that no money received was on the other end. Oops … What’s wrong?

Immediately logged into the ICICI bank money transfer service online account to refer to their so called “Online tracking of the status” – which states that Money was sent to Bank A/c and rest of my bank account details. Waited for couple more days thinking that money may be in transit between their bank and my dad’s bank. The fact is it’s still hanging out somewhere and nobody could track it till date (even after 30 days of time).

After contacting the ICICI bank’s customer service about the transaction, I got mail from CS Rep on May 05 2004, that they made a note of my query and would get back to me with details. In fact they did come back to me with details, stating – “The Fund Transfer is successfully and credited to Beneficiary Bank blah blah…. transaction no #####. Please check the same with Beneficiary Bank”

Had the transaction is successful the amount should have been in the account. I made money transfer (NOT ICICI bank) in the second week of Jan 2004 using the same details that I used for transaction with ICICI bank. It was successful and money has reached home within 3 business days. So, if ICICI has processed the details correctly there is no way that amount will misplace somewhere. Therefore I asked ICICI bank CS. Rep for details of transaction and Beneficiary Bank to which they have credited.

On May 10, I got a stupid reply from ICICI bank CS Rep stating – “Go to track your remittance link and find details over there”, (with an link in email that didn’t work.) This text is followed by same text that I got in mail dated May 05, “The Fund Transfer is successfully and credited to Beneficiary Bank blah blah…. transaction no #####. Please check the same with Beneficiary Bank”
Thought that contacting through email is taking hell a lot of time. And so contacted their toll free number, 1-800-ICICI4U after a day. A CS Rep has lifted the phone and did his prepared talk … Welcome to blah blah…. how can I help you?

I started – “Few days back I have initiated a money transfer service with ICICI bank and I got the transaction # with which you may track the details…” was paused by ICICI bank’s CS Rep. He said, “Before you further proceed can I have you First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Phone# etc”. Gave those details as per his request and completed my enquiry. After a while he said the system says – “The Fund Transfer is successfully and credited to Beneficiary Bank blah blah…. transaction no #####. Please check the same with Beneficiary Bank”. So please do so. I could do nothing but to hang-up the phone and rang my parents in India.

After confirmed with my dad, I called ICICI bank’s toll free number again to find out what ICICI bank have been doing regarding the money transfer that ended up nowhere. A Female CS Rep answered me and stated her welcome message. I started the enquiry about the transaction that I made … and was paused by her and asked – “Can I have you First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Phone# etc”. Gave those details as per her request. Then I restated my enquiry and stressed that “I don’t want that money to lose, so the faster you process the enquiry the safe my money would be”. She said that – “money will go nowhere, it should be in your beneficiary account. Now that you have already filed an enquiry please wait for couple more days to let ICICI bank’s CS. Rep’s get back to you”.

I also explained her that the situation is tight and money need to be made available at the earliest and treat this as very urgent as I am already running late. CS Rep said she has noted the query and would get back to me soon.

On the same day I got reply from ICICI bank that – “it takes 3 working days” to get back to me. Fuck them, 3 days – even after stating it’s really urgent. Is this how ICICI bank takes care of customers, whose transaction is not yet complete and requirement of money back there in India is really very urgent?

So I made another transaction through SBI, NY who transferred money within 2 business days. Thanks for SBI for transferring the money in right time.

Waited for couple more days and requested my parents to figure out the details from the SBI bank. Got information from beneficiary bankers – we haven’t received any of the transactions to the bank account.

Later after couple of days, I got reply from ICICI bank stating the same fucking bullshit – “The Fund Transfer is successfully and credited to Beneficiary Bank blah blah…. transaction no #####. Please check the same with Beneficiary Bank”. Goddamn it. What’s with these people? Are these guys nuts? I really don’t know what’s going on in their minds. ICICI bank mailed the same shit for 4 times even after 10 days of processing. God knows what processing ICICI bank has done to figure out where the money is.
I called ICICI bank’s toll free number again. This time, a male CS. Rep claims himself XXXXXX, lifted the phone and stated his welcome message. Then I started the enquiry, “what’s with the transaction”. I was paused by him and asked “Can I have you First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Phone# etc”. I am so sicken tired of their fucking service. Every time I ring them up ICICI bank’s CS Rep listen to you only when one gives your First Name, Last Name, Email Address, Phone# etc. Whenever I mail the ICICI bank’s CS officers they say same shit – “The Fund Transfer is successfully and credited to Beneficiary Bank blah blah…. transaction no #####. Please check the same with Beneficiary Bank”.

I was so pissed-off on ICICI bank and their service and decided not to go with them in the near future. But in order to proceed I got no other option but to give ICICI bank’s CS Rep my personal details. Well continued again – “where is my money?” The ICICI bank CS Rep said, “The money should be in bank account in back in India. Our system’s say that the fund transfer is successfully completed. Please check … “ (the same shit). I got all fired up; Doesn’t ICICI bank understand or care for the money that I have transferred using their fucking service? I replied the ICICI bank CS Rep that “ICICI bank might consider the transaction is complete if they successfully transferred amount to RBI (the intermediary bank). But who cares? As far as I am concerned, I consider the transaction is complete only if the amount is reflected in my bank account“. What do say guys? I am right or wrong? I consider the transaction is complete only if the amount is reflected in my bank account.

To piss me off more, this ICICI bank CS Rep is so rude and started against me, “confirm with your people in India. Your parent might not have confirmed as they claim. Etc“. Guys, you know what? This ICICI bank CS Rep is the most disgraceful Customer Service Representative that I have ever come across in my life.
Finally I have requested ICICI bank to return my money back. After couple of days on May 16, I got mail from ICICI bank in reply to my request to have money back into my personal bank account in USA – “… It’s an electronic mode of remittance, we would be unable to send the funds back to your US bank account.” ICICI bank can pull the money from my bank, but ICICI bank can’t put the money back? What the … fuck? This clearly pictures what ICICI bank is capable of? They are here to suck the money out of pockets, but can’ track what’s going on. That’s way I called ICICI bank the bank that sucks.
Not only that, this time ICICI bank wanted my beneficiary bank can get in touch with the RBI (the intermediary bank) and follow up with them. See guys, until now my dad went from SBI bank and to nearest ICICI bank to & forth, to confirm what ICICI bank wanted us to. Now that ICICI bank wants us to contact RBI to figure out where the heck the money has gone, what the fuck ICICI bank is there for? If it can’t track beyond ICICI bank’s boundary why does it offer this stupid service?

For my final mail to ICICI bank, requesting the legal in charge of ICICI bank if they still can’t figure out what’s with the transaction, they responded on May 18 with completely irrelevant message to the question I posed. In fact it’s the same shit that they have been repeating all these 30 days – “The Fund Transfer is successfully and credited to Beneficiary Bank blah blah…. transaction no #####. Please check the same with Beneficiary Bank”. Jesus Christ! For god’s sake cut this crap.

Is this what one expects from so-called India’s second largest bank – ICICI bank? And the most ridiculous thing is ICICI bank sent a mail with subject – “Refer ‘n’ Win Contest from ICICI Bank!” – From Gopakumar P, Head – NRI Business. What in the hell made them think that I would refer my friends to win their stupid sweepstakes despite all these mental tensions regarding the money transactions?

As a final attempt, I chatted with ICIC bank’s CS Rep, claims himself Allwyn, during my office hours regarding the contact information of their head Gopakumar P. I told him that it’s good for him and ICICI bank as well if he can help me to give the contact information regarding some legal issue. After a long wait he replied – “we do not have the piece of information that you require”. Fuck them, these ICICI CS Rep’s don’t know / have the information of who their boss is and what’s his contact information? He also suggested – “I would request you to write to nri@icicibank.com” – the same fucking email address to which I have been contacting over a month.

ICICI bank doesn’t want to clear this issue. In fact ICICI bank ayn’t got any system to track beyond their boundaries. So I don’t think that they are going to resolve this any soon, unless I give a legal notice from my lawyer. Trust me this is going to be my very next step. Despite doing everything as ICICI bank suggested, our efforts are in vain. We were left with nothing but mental tensions, which has greatly disturbed our daily schedule all these days.
This blog was written not only to explain how I lost money with ICICI bank’s stupid money transfer service but also to explain how ICICI bank’s services sucks. I won’t give a damn to what ever they offer to make me refer somebody. I promise you guys, none of my colleagues, friends and family members are going to use any of the ICICI bank’s services, as they have been constantly updated by me about the ICICI bank and their services for me. I am damn sure that who so ever would go through this blog would never go with ICICI bank.

Finally being an active executive member of Sanskar, The Indian association for New Jersey Institute of Technology & State University of Rutgers, Newark, New Jersey; I don’t think it’s as difficult as one can think of distributing this invaluable information to thousands of Indian students and alumni. Using the mailing list service, with a click of button, I am going to reach all of these friends, who might use ICICI bank service, if they are unaware of what has happened to me.

As everyone knows, it does take hell a lot of time to know good about somebody, but on the other hand all the negative information spreads within split of a second. In whatever way you see from the view of customers or competitors, the latter part is not good for any company. So friends, I strongly recommend NOT to use any of the services provided by ICICI bank, it really sucks.

    not sure which part of US u r but i guess what they do is sent a NY cop to their office to investigate and the cops asks icici guys to solv it within 15 days else they will file a cheating case….and summon them to the court within 30 days…

    that’s what i did when my 3500$ did not reach my dad even after 15 days……happened to me in 2002……. within 17 days….icici NY sent me a stupid “sorry” letter along with a $50 gift card of Bestbuy for their stupid service….

    then after 36 days my monty was credited to my NRE a/c with ICICI CP, N Delhi branch alons with 20 days of interest……

  4. Don’t talk to Customer Service(Toll Free) in India on critical issues, they are useless. Send strong letters to NRI office in NewYork by mail. They are responding immediately. It happened to me now.

Luckily my sixth sense told me to do a test and I transfereed only 1000 INR which is not yet credited and the ICICI bank says the same thing “The Fund Transfer is successfully and credited to Beneficiary Bank blah blah…. transaction no #####.     Though I am not in the same level of agony but still have a feel for it. Since Feb 28th I am struggling to get my T5 (Tax receipt) from ICICI Canada. Today it is April 20th 2007. I have called 7 times to CS and wrote 4 emails, nothing happens. I even told to the sons of neighbour fuked mother that why dont you show some innovation and give me some different excuse this time, you give me the same answer all the time. They even cant do that. I told them to close my account two times, still they even cant do that.

    There should be some way to prevent this bastards from fucking around with us.

    Any ideas?

  10. I have an ICICI bank account. I don’t ever recommed ICICI bank for anyone in this world. Not even my enemy. Greatest suckers in the world.

    The worst part is the toll free customer service. They are really customer scarers. You cannot talk to anyone who know anything about banking. The junkies just read what is in their monitor and would not transfer to banking officer. There is no real use calling them. If you have a bank in US or in India, you can go in and talk to an officer in the bank. You have their phone number or way to contact them. With ICICI bank NRI service, you talk different junkie every time and knows nothing about you or what you want. You have to repeat what you want to every one of them you talk to, to get one little thing done. They would never provide a direct phone number. What do they think; NRIs steal their phone number and steal all of their possessions?

    Oh, don’t ask about how friendly they are. Customer service…. They will ask you how many kilos of customer server for a Rupee. Rude, no appology. You have to provide all your details to every one of those junkies you talk to, but no contact information about how to talk to the same person next time or someone consistenly. With all the employee turnaround they have, you just waste your time.

    When you go to bank in US, how nice is the customer service. Or even when you call. In India, if you are an NRI, you will be greeted by the branch manager. ICICI NRI Service, upside down. You got to beg and need to be nice to them. It is your money, they make profit out of it. Guys, think about before you want to do anything with ICICI bank NRI service. If you are in India, and go to branch directly, it is like a real bank. Not the same with NRI service from overseas.

    When I need to speak to them they don’t bloody resolve the issue. honestly, their customer service even beats the shitty service given by Airtel, and that’s saying something! You guys are lousy when it comes to customer care!

  13. I am going through the same situation. I initiated a tranfer of Rs 1,00,000/- from my ICICI saving account in India to SBI account on 4th Dec 2007. The amount was debited from my account immediately but have not showed up in the SBI account till date. When enquired with ICICI they said that the money has been successfuly transferred from their account and asked me to follow up with the SBI bank. This really sucks !!!Don\’t these ppl (ICICI) not accountable for the tranfer at all?

  20. ICICI Service really sucks; they apply lowest conversion rate during the transfer time. Transfer time is very long, they take US holidays Indian Holidays and Anyother Holidays in the world into consideration before they credit the money into Indian account. They make sure your money does not reach on Time. They need to build a system which really works and sucks.
    ICICI BANK REALLY SUCKS stay away from that if you have choices guys.

    I am glad to inform you that I am one among the most frustrated ICICI Direct customers.

    The reason –

    You guys came up with a new weapon of customer irritation, i.e. KYC(Know Your Customer).

    The reason we are told for that is the loss of our documents in the Mumbai floods from your side.

    I am not sure how will you take care of our money when you cannot take care of our documents.

    I went to the ICICI Direct center Kothrud, Pune and asked the guy the reason for the deactivation of my account.He said I might have not used it for a long time so it might have got deactivated.I asked the procedure and they said I need to give a copy of my Pan card and Address proof at the ICICI bank branch demat desk.

    I went to the ICICI Bank demat desk and they said they do not accept the document for any kind of activation and they said I need to go back to the ICICI Direct Kothrud center.I went to ICICI Direct center at Kothrud,Pune again and the gentelman there told me that I need to change my address first.I did that and it took around 5 days for the address change.I am not sure why the lady at the demat desk at ICICI Bank,Bhandarkar road,Pune branch didn’t tell me that my account is deactivated and any procedure to activate it.

    Then I again went to your ICICI Direct Kothrud Pune branch for the KYC. The gentleman met me again and told me that the KYC should be done from the ICICI bank demat desk. He also informed me that KYC is an RBI regualation recently launched and your customer care told me that ICICI Direct is doing KYC as our documents are lost in flood from your side. I was very sure that he is not aware of the procedure and also very much unaware of what KYC is.He told me he will arrange a guy who will do the KYC for me. But the guy didn’t turned up.

    Then next day I again went to the ICICI Direct center, Kothrud to inform them that the KYC agent did not turn up the day before and they told me that I need to go to ICICI direct Tilak Road, Pune center to get the KYC done. He said he cannot do the KYC at the ICICI Direct, Kothrud center as it is not allowed for them to take any document from the customer.

    Then finally I went to the ICICI Direct Tilak Road,Pune center where I came to know that the KYC can be done from any center and the lady at the reception told me that they are recieving KYC forms from ICICI Direct, Kothrud center regularly.So the person at the ICICI Direct Kothrud center was not correct.He didn’t accept my form.The lady also told me that it will take 15 days to complete my KYC.

    I submitted my documents to the agent Nitin. He told me the driving licence will not be considered as a valid address proof. He said I can submit a lease and licence agreement with the driving licence as a supplimentry address proof.

    I called the ICICI Direct customer care center and came to know that they accept driving licence as a valid address proof.That means the agents who are doing KYC are themselves not aware what documents are valid and what are invalid. Today I called Nitin again and came to know that even after submitting documents before one week, the documents are still with him and he is waiting for the lease and licence agreement or HR letter from my side.

    I am not sure how can a lease and licence agreement can act as a better address proof than a driving licence issued by the government.Secondly I have a question how can KYC takes 15 days to complete. Another question, who will be responsible for my losses if market goes down. I request you to kindly reactivate my account at the earliest , not because my money is stucked with you guys, but I need to close it at the earliest.

    If any of your body part is suffering from gangrine then it is better to cut that part.My ICICI Direct is no less that. It is suffering from the gangrine of your pathetic services.Kindly activate my account as I do not want to continue with you as a customer.

    you are not the only one with a grudge against this bank, millions have been cheated out of their hard earned money and this process is continuing till date as we speak. i for one was stupid enough to hold multiple accounts and other services with them, till i was cheated.they dont bother to answer and their customer care should have a signboard which should rightly state as ” confusion care “. most of them are idiots and dont have a semblance of knowledge, and they are downright rude and discourteous to the core. the bank should be shut down

    I don’t know if this is correct place, however I would still post my issue since ‘ICICI’ plays

    a role.

    I applied for a Car (Chevrolet) Loan via ICICI. The loan amount was a mere 3.2L. I submitted

    over 100 xerox copies of documents, my past 2.5 years of employment papers, this n that.

    Where am I stuck? The person from ICICI (or the agency ICICI hires) went to the WRONG address

    for my verification. Now, I’m single and I stay alone. Where I live, it has been over 2.5 years

    and everyone knows me in the building for obvious reasons. The verification guy went to the

    wrong address and marked my FI as negative. I re-requested it and this time he entered the

    wrong address again! I assisted him in going to the correct address, and again he marked me as

    negative! I verified from every neighbor in my building, all of them were away to work. And the

    comments that this guy put in his notes everytime was
    “The guy has left the building 2 days ago”

    Now,
    1) When first time, he entered the wrong place, how could he write “I left 2 days ago”? (even

    if I did leave)!!
    2) Howcome he wrote the same damn comment AGAIN when he entered the same address

    My question to ICICI persons:
    1) Are these persons your own? These so called uneducated and absolutely lunatic people
    2) If not, then they are from some agency that you hire. What is your criteria for making a

    contract with an agency for the verification process? Or do you have none at all?
    3) On what basis, are these persons given information for verification?

    or is this just some “layman’s work” or some “jugaad” thing keeping which in mind does ICICI

    hire/employ agency/persons for the verification process?

    I have taken a leave today, in spite of urgent work, sitting back home like a stupid person,

    and finding EVERY SITE on which I can tell people, what ICICI does!

    No matter what comes to this country, the service is as bad as a road-side dhaba. And its

    painful to see, ICICI BANK is no damn different!

    Thanks ICICI, these are the reasons why people from outside laugh at India and its services.

    Forget them, I am laughing myself to be a part of the country where a bank like ICICI truly

    harasses people and kills their time n money for nothing at all!

  25. I agree ICICI is a scam…. No transpency on how the exchnage rate is applied. Worst exchnage rates…. Wish could sue them. Money reaches whenever ICICI wishes to do so. No standards. Horrible Customer Service. They just put you on hold and have no answers for anything you ask…. I am going to close my account…

  26. ICICI doesn’t care what customers think. They need the customer until they put the money. There you go once you put your money. We can not name all the ways they screw you. If your transaction is time sensitive you are done. NEVER EVER OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS BLOODY BANK.
