And the bad news is that I grew 1 year old from last year and I can’t stay 18 till I die 🙁

More about my B’day experience

After three long years I am back to India, and guess what I am right on time for my birthday. I am the most exicted and eagerly waiting for this day. I wokeup early in the morning and going through news about John Kerry & Pres. Bush 2004 election related stuff in CNN. Mom is supposed to have bed rest, but she couldn’t wait to greet me. Despite doctors suggestion, she somehow stoodup to annoint me, gave harathi and akshanthalu just because I haven’t had these traditional stuff on my birthday for long time. In a few moments, my grand father & grand mother called to great me. For the next couple of hours, I was busy receiving greetings from all the relatives. Moreover, I received call from my 10th grade school mates and Bachelor of Tech. (B.Tech) school mates. What else one should need, other than such love and affection? I was so deeply moved and so happy to back here.

Yesterday is my cousin’s son, Vivek Venthurupalle’s, 2nd year birthday. It was awesome, especially the lunch was great. I didn’t had much apetite to taste all the items, so I had only couple of them. I came across most of my relatives and each everyone were wondering where the hell all my hair has gone. This is not an unsual question for guys like me lost much of thier hair because of environmental changes. As usual I took it easy and moved on to different topic.

Though I haven’t planned to arrange such grand function, I have invited only couple of near and dear. Had nice time with them and later in the evening I wanted to see all my friends here in Hyderabad, so Kapileshwar Rao (Kapil) from B.Tech fixed the rendezvous, EAT street, Tank Bund. At the last moment my dad couldn’t drop me at the location, so I took directions and headon to location by our city bus.

While I was waiting for the 16k bus to stop and let me get on, it started moving. I couldn’t think of anything until a young lady got in from the back door (where men usually get in the bus) while bus is running. Oh man, I have forgotten that I am in India, so, inspired by her, I did the same. The young lady getting on running bus reminded me of our B.Tech memories – Trinath & I were standing agaped in Venkoji palem bus stop, when Sailaja got onboard of running bus #666.

Back to present, The young men, as usual, gave me some room on the foot board to get on it. As I dont want to block the way, I moved in. I asked the conductor, “how much is ticket for Secunderabad?”. The answer came is Rs 5. So, I paid that amount and started to think, how much I used to pay for the bus fare when I went to my B.Tech school. Well, clock kept rolling, may be, so did the fares. I greeted the guy sitting next to him and asked “What’s the journey lenght from here to Secunderabad?”. He is some what irritated as he was disturbed while he is trying to catch up sleep. But he answered my question as I asked him very politly.

I got down at Secunderabad after an hour and surprised to see the crowd over there. The bus complex is fully croweded and the first picture came to my mind is rush in Calcutta, couple of years back. After enquring here and there I got on right bus to Lumbini Park, Tank Bund, where Kapil is supposed to receive me. I have realized that I need to get down at that location only after crossing that stop. I couldn’t make to get down at that place because of the heavy rush in bus.

Well I got down at the next stop, Secretariot, couple of minutes away from the Lumbini Park. Fortunately, I am way much closer to Kapil’s office. After 10-15 minutes of my stay in bus stop, I saw a guy approaching me on bike Enticer, looks more or less like our Gov. Schwasnegger’s bike in Terminator II. The bike looks cool but the guy on it is odd, when compared to bike to body ratio. Surprisingly, its non other than our CR Kapil. I greated him, chatted with him for a minute and started to EAT street. I was wondering whether he could touch the road with his feet or not while on that bike. However, he reached it easily, not that he gained height, but the bike seat is short and that was main reason for him to go with it, as told by Kapil.

My 10th grade school mates K.M. Srikanth & Bhargav Ram were waiting for me at that location. Couple of minutes later Raga Vamsi came in. We chated there for couple of hours, discussing what everyone has done all these years. I spoke with other school mates (Sasi Kiran, who later dropped by us, Subhash Chandra, Raghuveer, P. Suresh, Subba Rama) on phone. Then we headed to Hotel Haveli and had wonderful dinner, Corn & Vegitable manchooria, Egg biriyani. Thanks to Kapil, for selecting items for me.

We had pretty good time discussing some funny incidents here and there. I enjoyed each and every moment of the day and would like to thank Vamsi in taking pains to drop me back at home. Hopefully the street dogs spared him & found the right path while returning back.

– Shyam Arjarapu

Hurry!!!
